Grace Potter & The Nocturnals in Lugano 1
August 27th 2008:
Finally my time has come, GPTN are coming for the first time to Europe. For three shows they are supposed to play at the Blues To Bop (www.bluestobop.com) in Lugano, Switzerland. The days before I had been in contact with Nate for different things, most recently because I should pick up Mark, the sound engineer, Jody (his wife) and Aya at Malpensa, one of the three airports near Milano in order to bring them to Lugano. I left my work near Zürich at about 7:30pm and without any traffic problems I could pass the Gotthard tunnel (longest tunnel in Europe; 10 miles) and arrived at the hotel in Lugano at about 10pm. There I met my daughter and her boyfriend, both have never seen GPTN playing live before. My daughter’s boyfriend has heard a few GPTN songs before, but was not very exited about that, and it took a while, until my daughter could make him joining the trip to Lugano. We took a couple of beers and went too bed.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals in Lugano 2
August 29th 2008:
I got a telephone call by Brian at 11am and he told me that Aya was sick (somebody did something in her drink) and we had to postpone our sightseeing trip to the next day. So I spent my time mostly in nearby the lake. Early afternoon my friends from Zürich and Germany showed up and we had some Weizen beer together. Obviously we had more beers than expected and I got very tired. We rented out a boat for a tour on the lake and shortly after we started I fell asleep so I missed the whole tour but I was fine again after the boat trip.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals in Lugano 3
August 30th 2008:
The day started at noon with the postponed sightseeing trip to Mt. San Salvatore. Mt. San Salvatore is located a little outside of Lugano. You can take a very steep train to reach the top. Brian, Aya, Jody, Mark, myself as well as three young Swiss people which Brian knows from his parents joined the trip. It was really hot that day and everybody was sweating. On top of Mt. San Salvatore we had a great view down to Lugano and the surrounding lakes (look at the pictures as soon as they are uploaded). We had a great time all together and I know now three more nice persons in Switzerland.

Reisebericht Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Februar 2008
Seit November 2007 sind fast vier Monate vergangen, viel zu lange ohne GPTN Live gesehen zu haben. Und so hat es sich sehr günstig ergeben, dass in de USA verschieden Termine notwendig waren, die sich gut mit meinem musikalischen Ambitionen in Einklang bringen ließen.

It’s 3PM and we’re pulling up in front of Toads Place to park with our brand new Posse members in the car. The ride up was not as bad as I anticipated, however, still a long 3-hour road trip. My long awaited winter concert date finally arrived, and now it’s a fantastic memory of a rocking evening spent with dear old friends and meeting some most excellent new ones. Some of you out there have suffered through my griping about my winter job and the impossibility of getting to all the concerts that I’d like to. I just should have shut my yap and waited patiently for this evening because it was worth the wait, especially as my friend Carol was able to join me and yes, ring the cowbell, if only briefly. There were a few dark moments in December when it seemed this would not happen – but with a little positive help from my friends, and her strong spirit it did. mehr...

GPTN @ The Independent; San Francisco; January 30th 2008
After $150 in sushi and sake we arrive at the venue around 7:45. Only about 30 people milling about. Check out the merch table for anything new. Find a spot near the front of the stage for the openers. Nothing really to write home about knowing what is coming up next! The only thing worth mentioning is some idiot heckler in the audience that felt like it was his duty to talk to the bands between each song.
